Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the British Sedimentological Research Group (BSRG)
Programme and Abstract Book Available: BSRG2011_Programme_and_Abstract_Book.pdf
Welcome to the website of the BSRG 2011 AGM, which is to be held in the Royal School of Mines at Imperial College, London from 18th-21st December 2011.
Royal School of Mines at Imperial College
This year's meeting is the 50th AGM of BSRG, and we plan to celebrate our Golden Jubilee in style! As in previous years, we expect a strong turn-out from research students and early career researchers, together with established academics and practitioners in industry. The meeting is financially supported by a number of organisations, allowing us to keep registration costs to a minimum and ensuring that we are able to run an exciting programme. Programme highlights include an icebreaker reception, conference dinner, joint technical session with the Clay Minerals Group, field trip and a seismic interpretation workshop. Support from sponsors has also enabled us to invite a series of keynote speakers who will present exciting new results that span a range of sedimentological research areas.
Please use the navigation menu on the left hand side to find your way around these pages. Should you have any queries, please contact us (Gary Hampson - g.j.hampson@imperial.ac.uk or Christopher Jackson - c.jackson@imperial.ac.uk).
We look forward to seeing you at BSRG 2011!

Joint Session with Clay Minerals Group: "The answer lies in the shale"
At this year's meeting, we are running an open session jointly with the Clay Minerals Group, on the broad theme of clay-related studies of sediments - including clays in reservoirs and source rocks, clays in recent and ancient sediments, and studies of shale gas plays.
Confirmed Keynote Speakers
- Cédric John (Imperial College); 'clumped isotope' geochemistry
- Richard Labourdette (Total); reservoir modelling
- Tom McKie (Shell UK); reservoir characterisation
- Mike Stephenson (British Geological Survey); carbon capture and storage
- Tor Sømme (University of Bergen); source-to-sink analysis of depositional systems
- Kevin Taylor (University of Manchester); multi-scale analysis of mudstone successions and shale-gas reservoirs (joint BSRG-CMG session)
- Fiona Whitaker (University of Bristol); reactive transport modelling of diagenesis.
BSRG Awards
We will award a number of prizes at this year's AGM, including the inaugural Harold Reading Medal. Nominations for these awards can still be made for the 2011 AGM - see the main BSRG website for details (http://www.bsrg.org.uk/awards.html):
- Perce Allen Award recognises a substantial body of research in any field of sedimentology;
- Roland Goldring Award recognises noteworthy published research in any field of sedimentology by a scientist under the age of 40;
- Harold Reading Medal for the best publication by a current or recent postgraduate student from a PhD project in the field of sedimentology and stratigraphy;
- BSRG Award for Undergraduate Sedimentology for the best final-year undergraduate sedimentological project at a UK or Irish University
- BSRG Award for Masters Sedimentology for the best sedimentological project completed by a student on a one-year taught Masters course at a UK or Irish University.
- BSRG Poster Prize is awarded annually to a postgraduate student, based on their research-in-progress presented at the BSRG AGM.
