Research Details:
Keywords: Early Tertiary evolution of basin architecture and sediment fill of East Java.

Description: The East Java Basin is located on the southeastern margin of Sundaland. The basin is bounded to the north by Kalimantan, the east by the Florence Sea, the west by the Karimunjawa Arch and to the south on Java by the Southern Mountains. Currently the basin is in a back-arc location. The northern segment, the East Java Sea, is a very shallow marginal sea, with extensive areas of carbonate platforms that range from the Oligocene to the present day. The ancient basinal setting in terms of basin bounding structures and their evolution are not so well defined.

The evolution of the East Java Basin occurred in several distinct phases. This project aims to determine more accurate time constraints for these phases, identify the sedimentation that characterises these periods and therefore develop a model for the evolution of the basin.
