Keywords: Silurian, Wenlock, limestone, palaeoecology, carbonates, palaeobiology, stratigraphy.

Description: The Much Wenlock Limestone Formation (Silurian) of the English Midlands and Welsh Borderlands is one of the most prolific palaeontological horizons in the UK, with over 650 species described. However, the palaeoecology is poorly known, due to a lack of systematic examination of the fauna, particularly rare and problematic elements. Additionally, the precise lithologies from which specimens were collected (mainly during quarrying in the 19th Century) are rarely known. This research aims to assess the problematica, ascertain the horizons from which they came, and build a more complete model of the ecosystems and depositional environments of the time.
